John Watters, the Founding Director of Living Leadership, brings deep expertise in the field of systems thinking, culture change and leadership development.

Clients and colleagues describe John’s way of working as inspiring, courageous, robust, fun, challenging and warm-hearted.

John is one of the world’s leading authorities on the work of systems theorist, Barry Oshry. John had the joy and privilege of a 15-year collaboration and partnership with Barry Oshry, pioneering the introduction of Oshry’s work into Europe, accrediting trainers, coaches and consultants worldwide and bringing this systems work to organisations as diverse as UNESCO, NATO, Shell, Microsoft, Roche, public sector bodies of all kinds, plus global and local charities.

John also draws on a deep knowledge of inner development from academic study and first-hand exploration of most forms of personal development over a 30-year period. Over the last seven years John has been exploring the Circle of Trust® approach of Parker J. Palmer and is completing a facilitator preparation programme with the Centre for Courage & Renewal. John is also on the editorial board for the Journal for the Study of Spirituality.

Prior to establishing Living Leadership, John worked as a consultant with PwC, establishing a niche practice specialising in turnarounds for under-performing public sector and governmental organisations. Early in his career John worked in general management posts in the NHS.

John has three degrees: a Master’s degree in Change Agent Skills and Strategies (personal, team and organisational change) from the University of Surrey; a second Master’s degree in Health Planning and Financing from the London School of Economics; and an undergraduate honours degree in Business Studies from the University of Edinburgh.

Living Leadership draws on a wide network of close and trusted associates as project needs require. John also partners with specialist and larger consultancies, where greater diversity, scale or geographical coverage is needed.
